Hmmm. When I play Strife, I only get the first voice repeated over and over any time someone talks. With v1.15b1 it would be whatever the first guys says when giving you a quest, and now with 1.15.1 it's "The comet struck without warning..." every time someone talks. I'm using vlaunch, with the "no 3D sound" box checked. Could it be my wad file? Or does it do this for others as well? The size and date on strife1.wad are : 28,377,364 bytes Thursday, May 23, 1996 6:03:58 PM and voices.wad: 27,319,149 bytes Monday, April 15, 1996 3:49:46 PM Both work fine in my original strife <!-- s:P --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_razz.gif" alt=":P" title="Razz" /><!-- s:P -->

I just tried the DOS version (from within Windows) and the voices play as they should, but the intro segments go too quickly and the talking gets chopped in the middle somewhere...<br><br>"The comet struck our plant without warning.<br>We lost our para...<br>(switches to next screen)<br>The impact released a virus that  (etc...)<br><br>[...]<br><br>They destroy our women and children<br>So that we must hide them undergound<br>And live like...<br>(switches to next screen)<br>But there are whispers of discontent (etc...)<br><br>Other than that, it seems OK (I can hear the whole conversations in-game)

The duration of intro screens haven't been adjusted to correctly match voices.

I had the same problem with voices repeating until I changed to "Use OpenAL". That's because of not enough memory, you can change that to a higher value with -maxzone (there are several topics on this here).

I had the same problem, switching to OpenAL solved the voice problem, although then I lost the music. Blackbird is silent either way, pity, this game is getting really close to being fully playable again. <br><br>running on Windows XP SP1<br>SB Audigy

I think I found where was the problem with voices. Probably I was using OpenAL while testing and that's why it was working fine for me.

I think it's abandon ware, so you can download it for free legally.

If I'd be living in the US, I'd gladly spend the $9.95 for a factory sealed box of Strife incl. shipping (but half.com doesn't allow for buyers outside of the US, damn their eyes).
